The Saints beat the Colts by 31-17 in Miami.

Brees equalled the Super Bowl record for completions as the Saints notched an emotional victory five years on from Hurricane Katrina.

The Saints trailed 10-0 after the first quarter, but took control from that moment on to dominate the favoured Indy Colts.

Brees completed 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards and two scores en route to being voted the game’s MVP.

Peyton Manning had a great game, and now the Colts are only the fourth team in league history with a 17-game winning streak. Manning opened the game with 25 passes in the first quarter, the most by any quarterback in the first quarter since 1991. And after running 37 of the first 44 offensive plays, Indy led only 13-0. He finished 34 of 50 for 318 yards with one TD and one interception. Dallas Clark had 14 receptions for 119 yards, and Reggie Wayne caught eight passes to move past Hall of Famer Raymond Berry for second on Indy’s career list.

What does this mean for us NFL anerican football fans? Well the Colts became only the fourth team in league history with a 17-game winning streak. New England did it twice – winning 21 straight from 2006-08 and 18 in a row from 2003-04 – and Chicago achieved the feat in 1933-34. But remember how the Patriots were favorites to win the Super Bowl in 2008 only to go down against the NY Giants–we’ll have to see if the Colts’ run can make it all the way to the Super Bowl.

Quarterback Brett Favre is to come out of retirement, yet again, to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

Are we going to still see Favre when he’s 59 on the football field? It’s not so far fetched, just look at this story about a 59 year old linebacker called Mike Flynt.

Favre is now 39, and after a season with the NY Jets last year, it will be interesting to see how he will do. It also means he will be up against the Packers twice in the coming season as both sides are in the NFC North division.

The rivalry between the Packers and Vikings is legendary. How will he be received when he returns to his old home field? “Frosty” is one word that comes to mind.

The Minnesota Vikings confirmed there is interest in signing Brett Favre -  the Hall of Fame-bound quarterback, despite the quarterback saying he is now retired – again.

We say – please stay retired Brett. You were the Favre of the month for long enough, and now it’s time to stay retired. Like boxers that keep coming back, it gets old after a while. Give the kids a chance. You had your time in the NFL sun.
